STEP 1 - Come Participate in a Group Class, FREE!

Part of the essence of CrossFit is being Open Source. Our ideas, methodologies, and practices are open to the public for viewing, participating, and scrutinizing. It’s all laid out on the table.

  • First Class

The first step in joining our community at CrossFit Petaluma is to come into a Group Class and participate with the group or hang back and watch the action. We’ll let you warm-up with the group, then participate in any technique work. skill practice, or games we may be focusing on. When it comes time for the WOD (Workout of the Day), we’ll ask if you feel comfortable participating, and set you up with a modified version of the workout suitable for those with little or no CrossFit experience. We have members of all skill levels in our Group Classes, and everybody is modifying the Workout of the Day to suit their strength level, any existing injuries, and their experience.

STEP 2 - Choose Your Intro Style

  • Elements Classes

Our Elements program is designed to safely familiarize those new to CrossFit with the methodology and movements we use in our Group Classes. New CrossFitters will be exposed to functional movements such as the Squat, Deadlift, Pull-Up, Push-Up and various other progressions that these lead to. Proper form will be taught and stressed under quality instruction.

Elements Classes give new and old members alike an opportunity to step back from the constantly varied nature of the Workout of the Day, and instead focus on basic movement patterns and techniques that they need to practice in order to better perform in our Group Classes. New members are required to complete four Elements Classes within their first month of attending Group Classes. Elements Classes can be found on our Schedule page above.

  • Private Intro Sessions

Some new members may not feel comfortable in a group setting or may require additional help working around existing injuries and rehabilitation. We love working with folks 1on1, as it allows us an opportunity to learn about our members as much as possible and tailor intro sessions perfectly to fit somebody’s needs.

Over the course of 3-5 private intro sessions, members will be exposed to CrossFit’s fundamental exercises and movements in a progressive manner. After working with a coach and learning the basics, members may choose to jump into our Elements classes if they feel they need more work on the basics, join our regular Group Classes if they are feeling up to par with what they have learned, or continue training 1on1 with their coach to push toward specific fitness or body composition goals.

STEP 3- Group or Private Training

  • Group Classes

Group classes are the backbone of our CrossFit program. We routinely have newer athletes thinking they will not get enough attention or worrying they will not be up to snuff with the rest of the CrossFitters in our group classes. 99% of these skeptics end up coming to multiple group classes each week. It’s contagious. The camaraderie and support found in CrossFit group classes is unparalleled outside of sport. Our exercises are scalable, meaning each movement has a multitude of progressions, from simple to advanced, that anyone can learn and perform. Each athlete completes the same workout, with slight modifications in load (weight) and time.

Anybody is welcome to come try a group class, but will be limited to Warm-up, skill work, and a modified Workout of the Day until Elements Sessions are completed.

  • Private/Team Training

Private and Team training is available and encouraged.

Efficiency is key to your fitness, not just for better times and heavier weights, but for safety as well. There are nearly a dozen fundamental movements used in CrossFit that make up the bulk of our workouts, and while these are covered in our Group Class warm-ups, I’ve never met an athlete who couldn’t use some extra work on their squat, deadlift, press, etc.

Coaches are available upon request to work with you on these movements, along with more advanced movements and subjects such as nutrition.
